PetSafe advise that you put aside about a quarter of an hour a day for the dog training. Spending this time with your pet every day for fourteen days, working through the instructions, will result in having a well adjusted and very happy pet dog. If after the fourteen days, your dog is not taking to the fence or being intimated by it, don't worry. Continue training your dog for 2 or 3 more days, but if you think it is a long way off, then repeat the whole of the invisible dog fence training.

Dogs can get intimidated by the invisible dog fence, should you start to see unusual behaviors like looking scared or avoiding going outside, then we suggest you discontinue with the dog training at that point. Play with your dog well away from the boundary and just have a bit of fun with him. When he is behaving normally again, then continue the training.

You will use boundary flags as part of the training. Once you set up the invisible dog fence, you then stake out the boundary with flags, these are a visual cue for you and your dog. At the end of each training session, you want to end up near the boundary and you want your dog to be happy and comfortable being here. By playing with your dog you are making him feel relaxed about being so close to the border, and it takes his mind of it.

When the day's training session is complete, remember to remove the collar from your dog or else the invisible dog fence will give him a static correction. You may find with some dogs that the training is going better than expected, this is good but stick to the fourteen day schedule. You want to complete the training because reinforcement is very important. As you are working your way through the 14 steps of the training do not contain your furry friend using any other means as this will only cause bewilderment for your dog.
